First of all, who is “called” to serve in the local church? Anyone who believes in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior is called to serve. If you are part of the family of God, you have something to give.
Who “calls” us to serve? God does. As believers, we receive God-given gifts for building up the body of Christ. The pastor receives the gift of Teaching or Wisdom; the coffee bar and greeters have the gift of Hospitality;and KidZone Children’s team may have the gift of Shepherding, Evangelism, Faith, or Service.
A spiritual gift is an expression of the Holy Spirit in the life of believers which empowers them to serve the body of Christ, the church. -Gene Wilkes
Being called to serve at church is a big deal! Once we have been made right with God, we are a new creation and we are called to represent Him and to share with others our need for a Savior . We are ambassadors for Christ. (2 Corinthians 5:17-20)
I have to ask myself, does my life represent Christ? Or, am I living a Christ-less Christianity? Is Christ in every aspect of my life at home, work, school, community?
I can’t do this on my own. I need to:
- Read God’s Word daily
- Pray in all things
