Why do bad things happen to good people? Good question – and the Bible has a great answer. Before we find it, let’s first look at why God created us in the first place.
Isaiah 43:7 says, “everyone who is called by my name,
whom I created for my glory,
whom I formed and made.”
And Revelation 4:11 says, “Worthy are you, our Lord and God,
to receive glory and honor and power,
for you created all things,
and by your will they existed and were created.”
He created us for His glory. He is worthy of our glory and honor.
So, then why is there sin? And why do bad things happen? Believe it or not, The Bible tells us it is the reason God created us!
“…to the praise of his glorious grace.” In Ephesians 1: 3-14 the apostle Paul tells us three times how our lives can bring glory to God:
“…to the praise of his glorious grace…” vs 6
“…to the praise of his glory.” vs 12
“…to the praise of his glory.” vs 14
God sent His Son, Jesus, to save us from our sin because without Him we are hopeless. (John 3:16). And in Ephesians 1:10 God promises this for eternity in heaven:
10 “as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.”
Dear Father, thank you for creating us for your glory. Thank you for sending your Son to save us from sin and eternal death. Glory and honor and praise to you for the promise of salvation and eternity in heaven. Amen.
